The Tuscan Fanuccis

(Traslation by Laura Tomei to whom go all our thanks. )

Because the author of this article is a Fanucci coming from Umbria, he is not very informed on the Tuscan branch of the family as well as the branch from Lazio, still near the Tuscany border.  The aristocratic origin of this family is without doubt, in fact, from research made with the "Consiglio Araldico Italiano" (Italian Heraldic Counsel), Tobia mayor of Tuscania (1259) was found as well as Tomaso, who was named Count by the Cardinal Pompeo Aldovrandi on behalf of Pope Benedict XIV, and with a “breve” (some kind of official declaration/order) dated 10 October 1743 was given this title, extensible to all his lineage.  Pope Pio VI confirmed the Count title also to his brothers and their descendants.

At the moment the noble Fanuccis of Tuscany seem to be extinct.

THIS IS THE NOBLE CREST OF THE FANUCCI FROM TUSCANY AND LAZIO

 STEMMA

FANUCCI

The family had origin in Tuscania.  In 1259, Tobia was general mayor of the city.  Many of this family were in the Counsel, occupied the first magistracy charges and among the first 50 Knights for the Giglio Military Order, founded by Pope Paul III, Sebastiano and his son Paolo Vittorio are listed.  In 1559 the family was subscribed to the roman aristocracy and was included in the Rolla Benedettina in 1740 and then among the Conservatori.  In 1540 had the "veterbese" (from Viterbo) aristocracy and on 19 September 1709, Vincenzo, Maria Paola Monaldeschi Della Cervara husband, was integrated in the same aristocratic group of Viterbo.  He was accepted in the “Ordine di Malta” (Malta Order) and in the order of St. Stefano of Tuscany.  He became relative several times with the noble family Ciuotti, he inherited the patrimony and the name Tomaso in the beginning of the XVIII century.  Tomaso was named courtly counsellor in 1747 and in 1748 of H.H. cardinal Pompeo Aldovrandi, on behalf of Pope Benedict XIV, with “breve” 10 October 1743, entitled him of the Count title extensible to his entire lineage.  Pope Pio VI confirmed the same title also to all his brothers and other descendants.  Count Tomaso was the first squire of the Duchesse of Chablais, sister of King Carlo Felice, was then gentleman of Chamber of H.M. Carlo Alberto, King of Sardinia, then chevalier of SS. Maurizio and Lazzaro and commander of San Gregorio Magno.

Other heraldic research made about 60 years ago report of an Arduino Fanucci, who fought the Gavignana battle in 1530 to the follow of Francesco Ferrucci.

Modern research made on the Internet via Google has given the name of three writers of 1500:

-          FANUCCIO FANUCCI - Judiciary counsel of Lucca in 1500

-          CAMILLO FANUCCI - Famous writer from Siena at the end of 1500

-          TOMMASO FANUCCI - Writer and poet of the 1500 (probably from Umbria)

[ Follow list of works by the three writers ]

Other researches made on Volume 1 of the "Dizionario Bibliografico" (Bibliography Dictionary), Hoepli editions, report a Fanucci Domenico from Lucca, musician and composer of 1700, and a FANUCCI GIAN BATTISTA from Pisa, writer of 1756.

The Tuscan-origin Fanucci crest should be the following one, which original we hope to be able to recover and photocopy, after having seen it some few years ago…

STEMMA DEI FANUCCI

From research made it seems that the place of origin for the Tuscan Fanucci, living in the PISTOIA and PISA provinces, could be PONTE BUGGIANESE, in the Pistoia province, at few kilometres from Montecatini Terme, a village where very strangely there are tens and tens of Fanuccis.

Dear flavio,
I hope you understand English - I do not speak portuguese :-(
I am a great-grand-daughter of Alfredo Fanucci from Pisa. Is he the same
relative as yours? He was married to Corinna Pini and had four children -
Lamberto (my grandfather, now deceased), Rolando, Lodoletta and Rossana (all living).

Can you send me more information about your ancestor? I go back to Pisa
quite often, although I live in London - and I could find out more information.
Obrigada,
Francesca Fanucci
P.S. Entiende Usted Espanol? Si no ha entendido esta carta, por favor me lo haga saber! Gracias.

Subject: Fanucci family name
Dear Sir,
I have found your website regarding the Fanucci families of northern Italy. My ancestors emigrated to the United States at the turn of the last century. Although my grandmother, Louise Fanucci Ramacciotti, is now deceased, I do know a fair amount regarding her family history.
Her parents, Angelo and Clelia (nee Vantini) came from Lucca, and her grandfather’s name was Domenico Fanucci, born approximately 1840-1850.
Her grandmother was Gelsumina Giomatti (Giamatti?), and was approximately the same age as Domenico.
As I understand it, this part of the family lived in Lucca and some extended family in Lunata. May I ask if you are aware of other Fanucci descendents, either in the Lucca area, or in other parts of the world?
I am happy to share any particulars, in the event that our respective families share ancenstry.
Kind regards,
Dr Timothy Ramacciotti MD

Saludos cordialmente, Claudia Fanucci.
